Sometimes, patients are transferred using scheduled commercial flights. Hope works with airline companies to allow for the safe transfer of patients on a normal flight. Commercial medical transfers are highly complex operations requiring the coordination of airline operations, engineering, security, medical teams and hospitals at both ends.
With special arrangements; patients on stretcher, life support (ventilator) and oxygen can travel on normal airlines. For semi ambulant patients, we can arrange for seated nurse or physician escorts.
The main advantage of a commercial airline transfer is the definite cost savings (anything from 40% to 80% lower than air ambulance). For long haul flights commercial airliners have the advantage of not having to stop so frequently for refuelling (due to limitations in range of air-ambulances), saving time and costs.
