Sometimes, exceptional situations occur. Natural disasters, fires, terrorist incidents and possible infectious disease outbreaks are but some of the stark realities of human life. Dozens of patients may require rapid evacuation.
In such instances, larger aircraft will require to be retrofitted as multiple casualty patient transports. This occured after the 2005 Tsunami. Hope operated in Sumatra, Krabi and Phuket. We used a C-130 Hercules and DASH-7. Wide body jets are also available for mass evacuations.
The Bell Jet Ranger helicopter is a short range and reliable air ambulance. It is capable of landing on fields and little islands. It too can accomadate a full medical team complete with life support equipment.
In the near future, we are looking into larger and longer range rescue helicopters with winching capability.
